After many months of inactivity, we’ve been pleased to see that work has finally resumed on the new Horton Plaza Park in the Gaslamp Quarter.
The $17-million project will create a new urban park at Fourth Avenue and Broadway, featuring an interactive fountain, an amphitheater, and a few food pavilions. Westfield will manage the city-owned plaza, where around 200 events will be held each year.
Originally scheduled to open last spring, the new park is expected to be completed by late 2015. Work began in November 2012, with the demolition of the old Robinsons-May department store building.
After watching the land sit vacant for so long, it’s great to see signs of life at what will become Downtown’s newest public space.
